Maltino Rug by Linie Design
A rug that begs for bare feet. The Linie Design Maltino Rug uses fine polyester yarns and a lengthy pile to create its luxurious, toe-caressing texture. The silky material--available in an array of colors--also has a subtle sheen to add glamor as well as comfort to pretty much any living space.
For many years, Linie Design has created handmade area rugs of renowned quality, originality and simplicity. Linie Design rugs are all designed by Scandinavian designers and handmade by skilled adult weavers in India. Based just outside of Copenhagen, Denmark, Linie Design is now able to distribute their rugs to the USA and around the world. Linie Design is a member of Care & Fair, an organization dedicated to fighting child labor and providing free education and health care to rug weaving communities in India, Pakistan and Nepal.
Care Instructions
- Vacuum cleaning is usually enough to clean the rug.
- The rug should occasionally be shaken or beaten with a carpet beater.
- When required the rug should be professionally flat washed
Care and Maintenance: Regular cleaning by vacuuming. Vacuum in the direction of the rug’s pile, but not with the brushes in the “out position”. Do not clean stains on viscose with water as this might damage the rug. To be washed flat by a professional carpet cleaner. Most new rugs will shed hair upon usage which is natural. Excess pile should be removed from the rug as it appears. Heavy furniture on the rug may leave the pile flat which is a normal characteristic for viscose/wool rugs. Please note that the colours may fade if the rug is exposed to strong sunlight for an extended period. We recommend underlay to avoid discolouration.
100% HAND KNOTTED
Depending on the technique and size of the rug, an artisan can spend weeks or months to finish a rug. All Hand-knotted rugs are by far the most intricate and labour intensive process. An experienced weaver can tie an average of 8,000-10,000 knots per day, with bigger rugs requiring up to several weavers working together on one rug at the same time. This ancient and time-honoured technique is extremely time-consuming, demanding great expertise and precision that takes years of practise.
MEET THE DESIGNER
As Head of Design, Urd Moll Gundermann feels privileged to have the opportunity to create beautiful designs every day. In her role as designer, rugs serve as her creative canvas, working with form, structure and colour until a balanced and functional solution emerges. In addition to designing new collections and exhibition pieces, Urd is also involved in other visual aspects, including creative input to photo shoots, website layout and catalogue.
FROM THE OUTSET THE MISSION WAS CLEAR; TO CREATE HANDWOVEN RUGS THAT REMAINED TRUE TO THE NORDIC DESIGN TRADITIONS OF UNCOMPROMISING QUALITY AND UNCLUTTERED AESTHETICS, AND THIS STILL REMAINS THE CASE TODAY.
Linie Design was founded in 1980 by Keld Agerskov and Hugo Anthon, with the ambition of creating handmade rugs that would merge Danish design and innovation with traditional Indian craftsmanship. Jesper Christiansen and Kenneth Nielsen joined in 1999, and they own the company today, continuing to run Linie Design based on the core values it was established with - with decency, innovation and craftsmanship still pervading every aspect of the business.
Today, Linie Design continues its collaboration with a number of Danish textile designers, led by Head of Design Urd Moll Gundermann. Our rug collections reflect the unique creative styles of each individual designer, reproduced by hand by skilled artisans in India. Whilst keeping traditional heritage values in high esteem and exceptional quality consistently high, the design team use innovative technology and new techniques to create new dimensions and push boundaries in design.
Over the years, as our focus has shifted towards a more international market, Linie Design rugs are now being sold in more than 70 countries worldwide – making us the leading developer of handmade rugs in Northern Europe. We also have a greater focus on taking care of the environment, with certifications and memberships that help ensure all processes, from design to production and sales, are conducted with integrity and accountability.
